Lee Dong-wook impersonator scams fan of $23,700

A woman in her 30s has reported losing approximately 35 million won (roughly $23,700 USD) to a scammer impersonating South Korean actor Lee Dong-wook. According to a report on the SBS program ‘News Hunters’, the victim believed she was in a romantic relationship with the actor for eight months.

The impostor claimed to be filming abroad and told the victim he had sent her a gift valued at 700 million won. When the package was allegedly held at customs, the scammer requested multiple transfers to cover storage and customs fees. The victim, who had never met the individual in person or spoken to him via telephone, used her savings to fulfill the requests.

In response to the incident, Lee Dong-wook’s agency, King Kong by Starship, issued a statement warning fans about similar social media impersonation attempts. The agency clarified that its artists do not request money, personal information, or valuables through private messaging channels, nor do they contact followers privately to arrange meetings.
