Lee Harvey Oswald’s Cuban connections and Cold War ties

Historical investigations into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy continue to highlight the presence of Cuban connections regarding Lee Harvey Oswald. While official investigations have not proven that Fidel Castro or the Cuban government were responsible for the assassination, Oswald’s activities in the months preceding the event involved significant contact with Cuban interests.

In September 1963, Oswald traveled to Mexico City in an attempt to obtain visas for both Cuba and the Soviet Union. During this period, he visited Soviet and Cuban embassies while under the surveillance of United States intelligence. Soviet official Nikolai Leonov reportedly described Oswald’s behavior during a meeting at the Soviet embassy as nervous and paranoid.

The “Cuban track” remains a point of interest due to Oswald’s documented contacts with actors linked to Cuba, the Cold War, and covert U.S. operations against the Castro regime, alongside existing documentary gaps regarding his time in Mexico.
