Lee Jun-seok warns Democratic Party against unchecked power

Lee Jun-seok, a lawmaker from the Reform Party, has issued a warning to the Democratic Party of Korea, urging members to internally check the administration of President Lee Jae-myung. Lee argued that failing to restrain unchecked power leads to political destruction and electoral defeat, citing the recent US midterm elections and the previous Yoon Suk-yeol administration as cautionary examples.

The warning comes as the National Assembly introduced a special counsel bill aimed at investigating allegations of manipulated investigations and indictments by state agencies during the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. The bill covers various cases, including those related to President Lee Jae-myung, as well as issues from the Moon Jae-in administration.

Lee specifically cautioned Democratic Party members in traditionally strongholds, such as southern Gyeonggi Province and non-Gangnam areas of Seoul, suggesting that political landscapes are shifting, much like the recent shifts seen in the US South.
