Lee Shih-kwan and Su Chiao-hui clash over conflict of interest allegations

The 2026 New Taipei mayoral race has intensified as Kuomintang candidate Lee Shih-kwan and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Su Chiao-hui clash over allegations of conflict of interest.

Lee Shih-kwan has criticized the Control Yuan for what he calls a “double standard.” He pointed to a recent fine issued to former legislator Chen Ming-wen, who was penalized 400,000 TWD for failing to disclose relationships when applying for agricultural subsidies. Lee argued that a similar investigation should be conducted regarding Su Chiao-hui’s sister, Su Chiao-chun, whose company received a 19.99 million TWD investment from the National Development Fund while their father, Su Tseng-chang, served as Premier.

Su Chiao-hui responded by stating that the relevant authorities have already clarified the matter. She noted that her sister was not the person responsible for the National Development Fund application and was not even an employee of the company in question. Su also remarked that the company’s shareholders include Kuomintang legislators, suggesting that the accusations are politically motivated, adding, “Elections really don't need to be like this.”
