Lee Su-jeong faces appeal over false military service claims
Lee Su-jeong, a People Power Party committee chair and criminal psychology professor, is facing an appeal process regarding allegations that she posted false information on social media during the 21st presidential election. The posts claimed that Lee Jae-myung and his two sons had received military service exemptions, whereas both sons had actually fulfilled their military duties.
During the final hearing for the appeal at the Suwon High Court, prosecutors requested that the court dismiss Lee's appeal. In the first trial, Lee was sentenced to a fine of 3 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act and the Information and Communications Network Act.
Lee's defense argued that the post was made due to a mistake and lacked malicious intent to slander, noting that the post was deleted within nine minutes after the error was realized. Lee expressed regret during her final statement, describing her failure to verify the information as “extremely shameful and lamentable,” and requested leniency to avoid losing her teaching career.
