Lee Vecihi Maxson flies replica of Vecihi Hürkuş aircraft

Lee Vecihi Maxson, the grandson of legendary Turkish aviation pioneer Vecihi Hürkuş, performed a demonstration flight in a replica of his grandfather’s 1931 Vecihi XIV aircraft. The event took place at the Sivrihisar Aviation Center Necati Artan Facilities during the 11th annual program organized by the Sivrihisar Aviation Club Association.

During the demonstration, acrobat pilot Ali İsmet Öztürk also flew a replica of the Nu. D-36, a design by industrial pioneer Nuri Demirağ, bringing two significant pieces of Turkish aviation history together in a single event.

Maxson, a US citizen, expressed deep emotion regarding the flight, stating, ‘I felt as if my grandfather was right beside me while I was in the aircraft.’ He noted the high level of interest from children and young people and expressed intentions to visit Turkey more regularly to support interest in aviation among the youth.
