Leeds and West Bridgford parks awarded Green Flag status

Seven parks in Leeds – Middleton Park, Golden Acre, Kirkstall Abbey, Otley Chevin, Pudsey, Roundhay and Temple Newsam – have been confirmed as Green Flag winners, joining a record‑breaking 2,391 UK sites that received the award this year. The Green Flag scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, marked its 30th anniversary and praised the parks for meeting international standards of management, safety and community benefit. Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment, Councillor James Gibson, said the awards “testify to the hard work, passion and dedication of our teams and volunteers.”

Meanwhile, Bridgford Park in West Bridgford secured its first Green Flag Award. The park, owned by Rushcliffe Borough Council and supported by local volunteers, was highlighted for its historic gardens, sports facilities and recent community improvements, including a memorial garden for COVID‑19 victims. Council Leader Cllr Neil Clarke called the accolade “a tremendous achievement” reflecting the dedication of staff and the Friends of Bridgford Park.

Both awards underscore the Green Flag programme’s role in encouraging high‑quality, accessible green spaces across the United Kingdom.
