Leeds police arrest six in organised cargo theft raids

Police in West and South Leeds have arrested six individuals, including five men and one woman, following raids targeting organised cargo theft from heavy goods vehicles. The operation, conducted by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU), involved warrants at six addresses in the Belle Isle and Kirkstall areas.

Authorities seized suspected stolen goods, controlled drugs, and various weapons, including a prohibited stun gun. The investigation is part of an increased effort by the YHROCU to combat organised acquisitive crime. Officials noted that cargo theft from heavy goods vehicles is a significant national issue, costing an estimated £65 million last year and causing disruptions to supply chains and increased costs for consumers.
