Leeds United leads race for Sporting's Hidemasa Morita

Japanese international midfielder Hidemasa Morita, 30, is nearing the end of his contract with Sporting CP. Leeds United have reportedly held advanced discussions and presented a concrete offer extending to 2028 with an optional extra year, positioning the Premier League club at the forefront of the pursuit.

Leeds, having secured Premier League safety this weekend, are seeking to strengthen their midfield and view Morita’s experience, versatility and tactical intelligence as a low‑risk, high‑value addition. The club has publicly denied the link, but intermediaries confirm talks are ongoing.

Morita is also attracting interest from other English sides such as Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as from FC Porto and unnamed clubs in France, Germany and Italy. Sporting CP continue to fight for a Champions League qualifying spot in the Portuguese league while managing the potential departure of a key player who has contributed to recent league titles.
