Leeds United signs Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic for €40 m

Leeds United announced the signing of 23‑year‑old Bosnian centre‑back Tarik Muharemovic from Serie A side Sassuolo on a five‑year contract. The transfer fee was reported at €40 million, making it the second‑most expensive purchase in Leeds' history. Juventus will receive €20 million through a 50 % sell‑on clause tied to the deal, reflecting the player's earlier upbringing in the Juventus youth system.

Muharemovic, who featured for Bosnia‑Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup, replaces outgoing defender Pascal Struijk, who moved to Brighton. Leeds manager Daniel Farke expects the defender to strengthen a back three that helped the club finish 14th last season. The move also underscores the club’s ambition in its second season back in the Premier League.

Sassuolo will retain a smaller portion of the transfer fee and record a significant profit from the sale, while the player thanked the club and its staff for helping revive his career.
