Leeton hosts inaugural all-abilities debutante ball on August 7
Leeton, New South Wales, will hold its first all-abilities debutante ball on August 7 at the Hydro Ballroom. The event is organized by My Plan Connect, a community‑focused group led by co‑founder and managing director Jodie O'Bree.
The ball is designed to give people with disabilities the chance to participate in a traditional debut ceremony, with rehearsals covering dance, acting and fitness. The Hydro Ballroom donated the venue, and the team is sourcing gowns, suits and shoes for participants who have previously been unable to attend such events.
O'Bree said the project grew out of a new performing‑arts program and that the participants' personal stories drove the initiative. Organizers hope the evening will be a magical celebration and a model for inclusive community events.
