Lefkada and Epirus Highlight August Festivities and Tourism
August is described as the peak of the Greek summer, bringing a surge of visitors to coastal destinations such as Lefkada. The island experiences packed beaches, vibrant nightlife, and a heavy workload for workers in hospitality, retail, health and security services who operate under high temperatures and long hours.
In the mountainous region of Epirus, the same month marks the return of many expatriates to their native villages. Town squares, cafés and churches fill with locals and returning families, while traditional summer festivals – especially the “August Easter” celebrations on 15 August – feature folk dancing, music and communal meals that reinforce cultural ties and sustain village life.
