Lefkoşa parents arrested after 9-month-old suffers spinal fracture

A 23-year-old mother, F. K., and her 25-year-old husband, M. K., have been arrested in Lefkoşa following the severe injury of their 9-month-old daughter. Police reported that the infant suffered a spinal fracture, with medical opinions suggesting the injury could have resulted from being struck by a hard object, heavy pressure, or a fall from a height of approximately four floors. Doctors have indicated the infant may suffer from paralysis from the abdomen downwards.

Investigations revealed that the infant's twin sibling had previously been treated in intensive care in Lefkoşa following a brain hemorrhage in June 2026. Social services have taken the children into protective custody. While the father denied the allegations in court, police have requested additional time to process medical reports and finalize the investigation.
