Lefkoşa police seize 600 g synthetic cannabinoid in Okaliptüs Operasyonu

On 30 July 2026, police in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) conducted the "Okaliptüs Operasyonu" and intercepted three suspects—identified by the initials M. Y., J. G. and K. K.—who were attempting to transport approximately 600 g of synthetic cannabinoid. The suspects, alleged to be from South Cyprus, were tracked near Mehmet Akif Caddesi, tried to hide the package under an eucalyptus tree, and were arrested after dropping the bag during a chase.

Police officer Celal Durukan testified that the seized material comprised about 120 g in one package and roughly 480 g in two additional bags. The investigation revealed that J. G. sourced the drug from the south and coordinated its distribution in the north. The court, presided over by Judge Şevket Gazi, ordered an additional three days of detention for the three suspects while further analysis of the drugs and the suspects' phones continues.
