Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi signs contract for new Theater and Culture Center

The Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi (LTB) has officially signed the construction contract for the LTB Theater and Culture Center. The project, which has been a long-standing vision for 30 years, is expected to be completed by 2028 to coincide with the 24th Cyprus Theater Festival.

Funded by the municipality's own resources at a cost of 330 million TL, the center will feature a 465-seat main hall equipped with modern stage technologies and acoustic infrastructure. LTB President Mehmet Harmancı described the project as one of the municipality's largest investments since 1958, noting that the goal is to provide citizens with a city worth living in beyond basic services like water and roads.

During the ceremony, artist Yaşar Ersoy, a founder of the Lefkoşa Municipal Theater, expressed the historical importance of the project. Ersoy highlighted several objectives, including addressing the shortage of trained personnel in the arts, developing a theater law to ensure an autonomous structure, and reviving the Lefkoşa inter-school theater festival.
