Left Alliance proposes 9.4 billion euro fiscal adjustment plan
Minja Koskela, leader of the Left Alliance, has presented a fiscal adjustment plan totaling approximately 9.4 billion euros. During a parliamentary group summer meeting in Jyväskylä, Koskela dismissed proposals for net adjustments of 8–11 billion euros in a single parliamentary term as unrealistic, arguing such a massive scale would act as a brake on economic growth.
The proposed adjustment package focuses primarily on increasing revenue through taxation rather than cutting welfare services. Key measures include the introduction of a millionaire tax, the removal of dividend tax relief for unlisted companies, and the unification of income and capital gains tax rates.
Koskela emphasized that while the party is not committed to a debt brake, it is prepared to implement these measures gradually to ensure that fiscal adjustments remain proportionate to the economic and employment situation, thereby avoiding harm to the welfare state.
