Lefteris Petounias ranks sixth in rings qualifications at World Gymnastics Championships
Greek gymnast Lefteris Petounias currently holds sixth place in the provisional rankings for the rings event during the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam. Following the first day of qualifications, Petounias earned a score of 14.033, consisting of 5.700 in difficulty and 8.333 in execution, after a landing error impacted his total.
Petounias remains within the qualifying top eight, but his advancement to the finals is not yet guaranteed. He must wait for the remaining country groups to compete on Sunday, October 18, to determine if his score will hold. The current provisional leader is Ilia Zaika with 14.533, followed closely by Great Britain’s Courtney Tulloch at 14.500.
Other top performers in the provisional standings include Artur Avetisian of Armenia and Mehmet Ayberk Kosak of Turkey, both with 14.233. The competition in Rotterdam is expected to see a new champion, as the 2025 titleholder, Donnell Whittenburg of the USA, is absent due to injury. China remains a significant threat in the upcoming subdivisions, with athletes like Xingyu Lan presenting high difficulty scores.
