Leftist Alliance condemns accusations against late resistance leader Ait Idder

The Leftist Alliance in Morocco has issued a formal condemnation following accusations made by the deputy president of the Tiflet communal council against the late resistance leader Mohamed Bensaid Ait Idder. The official accused Ait Idder of “collaboration and treason,” a claim the Alliance describes as an assault on the collective memory of the Moroccan people and the symbols of the national liberation movement.

Ait Idder was a founding leader of the Liberation Army and a prominent figure in the struggle against colonialism and despotism. The Alliance argued that such accusations are not merely political disputes but attempts to rewrite history through the lens of betrayal rather than fact. They specifically criticized the source of the remarks, noting they originated from an elected official and a political party founded by individuals associated with the repressive “Years of Lead.”

The Alliance has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the accusations and a public apology to the Moroccan people, the family of the deceased, and his comrades. Furthermore, the group called on the state to implement the recommendations of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission to protect national memory and ensure accountability for past human rights violations.
