Lega demands M5S leave Cascina majority over waste plant dispute

Elena Meini, the Lega group leader for the Cascina City Council, has called for the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) to leave the governing majority in Cascina. This demand follows public statements made by M5S assessor Fausto Bosco, who criticized the proposed oxy-combustor plant in Peccioli as a “wrong choice.”

Meini argued that it is politically inconsistent for an assessor within the governing coalition to publicly oppose strategic decisions made by the administration. While Meini expressed opposition to the Peccioli project due to economic sustainability concerns, she also rejected the “zero waste” approach as a viable industrial policy. She emphasized the need for modern, self-sufficient waste management infrastructure in Tuscany to reduce landfill use and manage non-recyclable waste effectively.
