Lega proposes mandatory school psychologists in Italy

The Lega political party has introduced a legislative proposal to make psychologists mandatory in Italian high schools. The plan aims to provide two hours of monthly psychological support per student to address mental health issues and prevent student distress.

The proposal envisions the gradual integration of 18,000 psychotherapists into the school system, starting with secondary schools before expanding to middle and primary levels. The estimated cost of the initiative is 960 million euros. To fund this, the proposal suggests a 0.65% IRES tax surcharge on large corporations with an annual turnover exceeding 100 million euros.
