Giovanni Malagò faces FIGC leadership uncertainty amid registration dispute

FIGC President Giovanni Malagò is facing institutional uncertainty following challenges regarding his registration status. While the legal situation is being reviewed by CONI, some Serie A clubs have reportedly discussed a potential transition period, with Adriano Galliani mentioned as a possible candidate for a temporary presidency.

Ezio Simonelli, President of Lega Serie A, has expressed strong support for Malagò, stating that 19 out of 20 clubs view him as the right person to lead Italian football. Malagò recently visited the Coverciano technical center to meet with Roberto Mancini and the national team ahead of their Nations League match against Belgium, emphasizing the need for responsibility and trust within the group.

In addition to leadership discussions, the Lega Serie A is advocating for increased revenues to improve competitiveness. Simonelli has proposed focusing on incremental revenue growth rather than simply increasing the percentage of funds distributed to lower leagues. Meanwhile, the national team remains focused on upcoming international commitments despite the administrative tensions at the federation level.
