Legacy Code physics simulation game announced for 2027
Kodansha Game Lab has announced the Steam store page for ‘Legacy Code’, a physics simulation game developed by 127-goshitsu. Scheduled for release on PC in 2027, the game allows players to construct mysterious creatures called ‘mechanimals’ by combining various junk items.
Players can use diverse parts—ranging from doll limbs and fans to televisions, dentures, and cacti—to build unique entities. The game utilizes a proprietary ‘Marionette Engine’ designed to ensure that any combination of parts results in functional, albeit unpredictable, movement. This engine allows for emergent behaviors where even the creator may not be able to foresee how a creature will walk or move.
The gameplay follows a cycle of ‘build, fight, and collect.’ Players explore environments like deserts and snowy mountains, battling enemies to scavenge their parts. As players acquire new components, their mechanimals can grow from small clusters of junk into massive, powerful creatures, enabling them to access new areas and face stronger foes.
‘Legacy Code’ has been selected as a finalist for the ‘Sense of Wonder Night 2026’ indie game contest at the Tokyo Game Show, standing out among over 1,500 entries.
