Legacy IT systems hinder AI adoption and increase security risks

A study by GFT Technologies involving 945 CIOs and CTOs across 19 countries reveals that 84 percent of IT executives have halted at least one AI project due to limitations within legacy IT systems. Furthermore, 93 percent of respondents expressed concern that a lack of system modernization could eventually trigger enterprise-wide security crises. There is also significant skepticism regarding the economic return on investment, with 89 percent fearing that global AI spending is outpacing business returns.

In response to growing security and management gaps, Barracuda has launched Barracuda AI Data Security. This platform is designed to provide AI transparency, data protection, threat detection, and governance, specifically targeting managed service providers (MSPs) and resource-constrained organizations. The solution aims to address the rise of ‘Shadow AI’ and the lack of internal expertise, as nearly half of IT leaders report their teams lack the necessary skills to securely manage deployed AI. The tool supports over 1,300 generative AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot.
