Legacy Motor Club announces driver and leadership changes

Legacy Motor Club is implementing significant organizational changes to prepare for the 2027 NASCAR season, including expanding from a two-car to a three-car organization with an additional charter.

As part of this restructuring, Josh Berry will replace John Hunter Nemechek in the No. 42 car starting in 2027. Team ambassador Richard Petty commented on the move, stating, “I think for Legacy to move forward, we’re going to have to start getting the drivers in there that can be competitive and can race with each other to make each other better. And right now we’ve not got that.”

The team is also seeing leadership shifts. Chais Elaison has been promoted to crew chief for the No. 42 car, succeeding Travis Mack. Co-owner Jimmie Johnson noted that promoting internal personnel is a fundamental part of the team's construction strategy.
