Legacy Vacation Resorts in Brigantine closed due to elevator failures
Legacy Vacation Resorts in Brigantine, New Jersey, has been closed indefinitely since August 14 following the failure of both elevators in the nine-story beachfront building. The closure occurred after the Brigantine Fire Department received multiple calls from residents on higher floors requesting assistance to descend the building.
According to Brigantine City Attorney George Morris, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs had previously placed one of the elevators out of service in October 2025 due to “serious life safety issues.” The building owner reportedly returned that elevator to service between October 2025 and May 2026 without the required state re-inspection or approval. Consequently, the city has issued a notice of violation and an order for a penalty.
The historic property, originally built in 1927 as the Hotel Brigantine, is currently not accepting future bookings. The condominium association stated it is conducting a broad facility review and is contacting guests and timeshare owners directly to manage the reopening process.
