Legal actions follow school stabbing in Malaysia and murder conviction in India
The family of Yap Shing Xuen, a 16-year-old student stabbed to death at a school in Bandar Utama, Malaysia, last October, intends to file a civil lawsuit. This decision follows a Shah Alam High Court ruling that dismissed murder charges against the perpetrator. The Attorney General’s Chambers has since appealed that decision. Yap’s mother, Wong Li Ping, raised concerns regarding whether warning signs were ignored, noting reports that the student had allegedly brought a knife to school for two weeks prior to the incident.
In India, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Poonamallee has sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for the 2016 murder of Sasikumar, a Coimbatore district official for the Hindu Munnani. Sasikumar was intercepted and killed while returning home in the Subramaniapalya area. Investigations revealed the attackers were members of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI).
