Peru police dismantle criminal organizations in multiple operations
Peruvian authorities have conducted several major operations targeting organized crime across various regions. In a coordinated effort involving the National Police of Peru (PNP) and the Public Ministry, the criminal group ‘Los Orientales’ was dismantled in Lima, Arequipa, and Piura. The group was specialized in the manufacturing and trafficking of counterfeit banknotes, with authorities seizing approximately S/ 300,000 and US$ 3,000 in fake currency, along with tools and weapons.
In a separate operation, 12 individuals, including police officers and former officials from the National Superintendency of Migrations, were detained for alleged involvement in illegal migrant trafficking. The investigation suggests these individuals facilitated the irregular exit of minors and falsified migration records, primarily at Jorge Chávez International Airport.
Additionally, police in Lima East arrested six members of ‘Los Gallegos,’ a faction of the Tren de Aragua, accused of extorting public transport companies in the Ate Vitarte district. Among those detained was José Pérez García, an individual previously expelled from Peru who allegedly re-entered the country illegally to participate in these criminal activities.
