Legal actions taken in gender-based violence and sexual abuse cases in Mexico and Argentina

In Mexico, a judge has formally charged Gerardo Demirel “N” with gender-based violence following an assault on his partner in Ciudad Constitución, Baja California Sur. The incident occurred in August 2026, resulting in physical injuries requiring more than 15 days to heal and documented psychological damage. As a precautionary measure, the court has prohibited the defendant from approaching the victim and has set a four-month period for the conclusion of the supplementary investigation.

In Argentina, police in Tandil arrested a man in connection with a long-standing investigation into aggravated sexual abuse and the corruption of minors. The arrest follows a complaint filed by a mother regarding abuses committed against her daughter between 2015 and 2015. The operation was carried out by the Sub DDI Tandil following an order from the Juzgado de Garantías 6 de La Plata, and the suspect remains in judicial custody.
