Legal actions taken in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic crime cases

In Puerto Rico, Luis E. Matos Matos, 61, faces charges for allegedly violating active protection orders. Authorities report that Matos Matos stopped in front of his former partner's residence in Loíza on three separate occasions on August 7. The victim holds a protection order under Law 54 for domestic violence prevention, and her husband holds an order under Law 284 against stalking. A judge set bail at $100,000; after failing to pay, Matos Matos was transferred to the Bayamón Correctional Complex.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Police are awaiting an arrest warrant for Kerlin Zorrilla, who is accused of shooting a teenager during a basketball tournament final in Villa Carmen. Zorrilla reportedly attempted to surrender at a parish with the mediation of a priest. He claims the discharge was accidental, occurring during a struggle after he pulled a firearm following a physical altercation. One minor was wounded by the shot, and another individual sustained injuries from a blade during the same incident. The investigation into the circumstances of the dispute is ongoing.
