Legal actions target assets of former officials Baratta and Baldetti
In Argentina, federal judge Julián Ercolini has processed former official Roberto Baratta for illicit enrichment. The investigation focuses on a significant discrepancy in Baratta’s assets between 2003 and 2017, totaling approximately $4,294,425 in original value. Key evidence includes a 380-square-meter home in Pilar, built with an estimated $3.7 million in cash payments, and a department in Buenos Aires. Testimony from an architect suggests Baratta or his private secretary handled cash payments for construction works.
In Guatemala, the asset forfeiture trial against former Vice President Roxana Baldetti has resumed. Financial experts presented evidence during the hearing, noting that Baldetti’s economic activity and transactions significantly exceed her reported commercial income and official salaries from her time as a deputy and Vice President. The Public Ministry is seeking to seize properties and bank accounts linked to her to benefit the Guatemalan state.
