Legal and environmental disputes arise in Bahía Blanca and Neuquén

In Argentina, two separate legal and environmental incidents involving municipal oversight have emerged. In Bahía Blanca, the Mar del Plata Administrative Litigation Chamber has overturned a previous acquittal, ruling that the municipality and a municipal worker may be liable for damages to a property. The case stems from a 2012 incident where an excavator, used during a municipal cleanup operation following reports of unsanitary conditions, caused significant damage to a residence belonging to the Rutsch family.

In Neuquén, a construction company faces potential environmental fines of up to 15 million pesos. The municipality initiated proceedings after video footage showed a tanker truck discharging a brown liquid into the Neuquén River. While the company claimed the substance was merely water containing soil from a construction well, local authorities are proceeding with environmental contraventions and will require the company to remediate the affected area.
