Missouri foster mother avoids prison in child endangerment case

Brenda Deutsch, a 70-year-old Missouri foster mother, has avoided prison time following her conviction for child endangerment. Although she was sentenced to seven years in prison, Lincoln County Judge Thomas Frawley suspended the execution of the sentence, instead ordering three years of probation.

The case involves allegations that Deutsch traded a 17-year-old foster child to a contact in Texas in exchange for an exotic monkey. Investigators discovered the teenager had been sent to an unsanitary home in Texas that Deutsch admitted she knew nothing about. The teenager also reported physical abuse, including being struck with objects like shoes and a paddle.

During the sentencing, Judge Frawley revoked Deutsch’s foster care license and criticized the Missouri foster care system for failing the victims. He issued a formal apology to the children involved in the case. Deutsch’s biological daughter, Brina Johnson, expressed disappointment with the verdict, stating the outcome was not what the family had hoped for.
