Legal challenges face mayors in Icod de los Vinos and Arona
Legal proceedings regarding allegations of administrative misconduct are unfolding in two separate municipalities in Tenerife.
In Icod de los Vinos, the Prosecutor's Office has requested the provisional dismissal of a case against Mayor Javier Sierra Jorge. The investigation into alleged continuous prevarication by omission stems from a complaint by a public official. The official accused the mayor of failing to act on requests to open disciplinary proceedings against another employee. While a judge previously identified indications of a crime, the prosecution now cites the statute of limitations regarding the initial incident as a reason for dismissal.
In Arona, a businessman has expanded a lawsuit against four Coalición Canaria councilors to include Mayor Fátima Lemes. The complaint alleges administrative prevarication, claiming the mayor deliberately prevented the resolution of an urban planning file by repeatedly excluding it from the agendas of Local Government Board meetings. The accusation notes that while the businessman's project remained stalled, other major construction licenses were successfully processed in similar meetings.
