Legal developments at Brazil's National Council of Justice

During a session of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), attorney Hallrison Souza Dantas declined to deliver an oral argument regarding an administrative process involving the immediate appointment of Judge Henrique Baltazar to the TJ-RN. Dantas opted to waive the presentation after determining that the rapporteur's vote, provided by counselor Jaceguara Dantas, already fully addressed his client's interests. CNJ President Minister Edson Fachin commended the gesture.

Separately, attorney Ulisses Rabaneda has decided not to seek reconduction to the CNJ, despite receiving significant support from the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). Rabaneda, who joined the council in February 2025, stated his decision was personal and intends to return to criminal law. The OAB Federal Council is currently managing 44 applications for the two vacancies designated for the legal profession.
