Legal developments in Argentina and Colombia regarding IMF loans and JEP funding

In Argentina, prosecutor José Luis Agüero Iturbe has appealed a decision to archive an investigation into the 2018 IMF loan. The case examines the circumstances under which the administration of former President Mauricio Macri secured $57 billion in debt. The prosecutor is seeking to overturn a ruling by Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti, arguing that there is pending evidence and that the investigation should not be closed without further instruction to determine the responsibilities of those involved, including Luis Caputo and Federico Sturzenegger.

In Colombia, Alejandro Ramelli, president of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), has rejected a proposal to reduce the institution's 2027 budget by 100 billion COP. The proposal, introduced by Senator Enrique Gómez Martínez, suggests reallocating those funds to the judicial branch to increase the number of judges.
