Legal developments in Colombia and Spain involving corruption and pardons

In Colombia, former DIAN official Luis Carlos Reyes has appeared before the Attorney General's Office to expand on allegations of corruption and influence peddling within the National Tax and Customs Directorate. Reyes intends to provide evidence regarding alleged pressures to appoint individuals linked to smuggling into customs director positions in Cartagena and Barranquilla. He specifically named former minister Armando Benedetti and Adelina Covo as having interests in influencing these appointments.

In Spain, Minister of the Presidency Félix Bolaños confirmed that the file for a potential pardon for former State Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz has reached his desk. Having completed the necessary preliminary procedures, Bolaños must now prepare a proposal to be submitted to the Council of Ministers. The minister noted that the case is distinct from other potential pardon requests, such as that of former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos.
