Legal developments in Greek fraud and Cypriot burglary cases
In Greece, a non-commissioned officer of the Greek Army has been released following an investigation into a cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The case involves the ‘A-TEAM’ group, established in 2025 in Larissa, which allegedly promoted investments via the FXO platform using artificial intelligence. While 17 individuals were arrested during an operation on September 30, 2026, the officer's defense argued that his office in Patras only provided procedural support and did not manage or collect third-party funds. Prosecutors and the investigating magistrate ultimately decided to release him, finding no evidence of involvement in a criminal organization, fraud, or money laundering.
In Cyprus, a 44-year-old Greek-Cypriot man was released after being extradited from Greece under a European Arrest Warrant. He was apprehended at Larnaca Airport in connection with five separate burglary and theft cases occurring between 2010 and 2013 in the Limassol, Nicosia, and Paphos districts. Although investigators presented scientific evidence linking him to the crime scenes, the Limassol District Court rejected requests for his detention, ruling that his custody was not necessary for the ongoing investigation.
