Legal developments in Romania and Moldova
In Romania, the Constanța Court of Appeal has closed the procedure regarding the contestation filed by Cristian Radu, the former mayor of Mangalia. This follows a decision by the High Court of Cassation and Justice to transfer the case to Galați. The case involves allegations of continuous bribery, money laundering, and instigation to misuse company assets. The first hearing at the Galați Court of Appeal is scheduled for October 22, 2026.
In Moldova, the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) has overturned disciplinary sanctions against Judge Igor Negreanu of the Orhei Judiciary. Negreanu had previously received a warning and a reprimand following the release of two life-sentenced prisoners, Alexandru Sinigur and Iurie Radulov. The CSM ruled that no disciplinary misconduct had been committed, effectively terminating the disciplinary proceedings.
