Legal disputes arise over parliamentary immunity in Mozambique and immigration laws in Portugal

In Mozambique, a legal analysis has challenged the Council of State's authority to suspend the immunity of Venâncio Mondlane. The critique argues that according to the Constitution, the power to authorize the suspension or lifting of parliamentary immunity belongs exclusively to the Assembly of the Republic. The analysis suggests that using Law No. 5/2005 to justify the act constitutes a jurisdictional error, as the law allows for the suspension of members under specific circumstances but does not grant the power to strip parliamentary immunity.

In Portugal, the Constitutional Court has unanimously ruled that the 'return law' regarding the asylum, detention, and return of foreigners is constitutional. This decision follows a preventive review requested by the President to ensure legal certainty and respect for human dignity. The law had raised concerns regarding the potential separation of parents from minor Portuguese children and the detention of foreigners for extended periods due to documentation delays.
