Legal disputes continue in Argentine political and union elections

In San Luis, Argentina, the Identidad Radical faction has filed a precautionary measure to suspend the internal elections of the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) scheduled for October 25. Led by José Luis Riccardo, the group alleges irregularities in the electoral process, submitting approximately 600 pages of documentation to the Federal Court. The dispute involves a conflict between the current leadership, represented by Lista 133 (Radicales Unidos), and Riccardo’s Lista 10 (Identidad Radical).

Separately, the Sindicato de Obreros Marítimos Unidos (SOMU) remains in a state of judicial uncertainty nearly eleven months after contested elections held in December 2025. While opposition lists Granate N° 41 and Azul N° 100 have requested expedited proceedings, the court has yet to reach a substantive resolution. Raúl Durdos continues to lead the national union due to successive judicial extensions intended to prevent institutional vacancy until a final sentence is issued.
