Legal disputes escalate over Joko Widodo diploma case
Legal proceedings regarding the alleged defamation case involving former President Joko Widodo’s diploma continue through pretrial hearings (praperadilan) in Indonesia.
Dokter Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dokter Tifa, is undergoing a pretrial hearing to challenge the validity of the termination of prosecution against her. She described the legal action as an “intellectual exercise” intended to test the procedures of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), arguing that her case sets a precedent for how legal procedures are handled after a case has been declared null and void by a judge.
Concurrently, Roy Suryo has repeatedly filed pretrial motions related to the same diploma controversy. The Tim Hukum Merah Putih (THMP), legal counsel for Joko Widodo, has criticized these repeated filings. THMP coordinator Suhadi stated that such repetitive actions do not align with the principles of the Judicial Power Law, which mandates that legal proceedings should be simple, fast, and low-cost, and should not be unnecessarily prolonged.
