Legal disputes over state-owned land continue in Argentina and Dominican Republic

In Argentina, the judiciary has halted an irregular attempt to sell approximately 700 hectares of state-owned coastal land in Marisol, near Coronel Dorrego. The ruling rejected a private individual's claim to the land via usucapion, confirming the territory belongs to the Province of Buenos Aires. Local authorities described the incident as an ‘attempted fraud’ after a real estate agency from Greater Buenos Aires offered the beachfront lots for sale online. The intervention aimed to protect public access to landmarks such as the ‘Barco Hundido’ and the Los Gauchos stream.

In the Dominican Republic, the legal and social dispute regarding the Los Tres Brazos sector continues eight years after the alleged irregular sale of state-owned housing plots by the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Estatales (CORDE). While criminal proceedings involving former officials and businessmen for complicity and embezzlement were initiated, the case has faced numerous procedural delays. Thousands of families remain in legal uncertainty regarding their property titles, as community organizations continue to demand the annulment of the original sales contracts and the regularization of their housing status.
