Febrie Adriansyah pretrial hearing verdict set for August 27

The pretrial hearing for former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, regarding the legality of seizures by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is scheduled for a verdict on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The case involves allegations of money laundering (TPPU).

During the proceedings, legal experts provided conflicting testimonies. A criminal law expert from UGM stated that money laundering can be processed independently of the predicate crime. Conversely, Febrie’s legal counsel argued that the allegations of ‘trading in influence’ lack a clear legal basis in Indonesian law, describing the charges as ‘imaginative’ and potentially violating the principle of lex certa.

Legal observers have called for the presiding judge, Richard Edwin Basoeki, to remain objective and independent from external pressures. Meanwhile, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has granted protection to a key witness, identified as FH, who holds critical information regarding the case. The defense maintains that the pretrial motion is a procedural check to ensure law enforcement adheres to due process, rather than an attempt to dismiss the underlying criminal case.
