Legal experts in Mexico and Argentina discuss restorative and juvenile justice

Legal experts and judicial authorities in Mexico and Argentina are addressing distinct aspects of the justice system through community engagement and specialized training.

In Mexico, during the National Week of Alternative Justice, speakers Manuel Delgado Chu and Daniela Patricia Almirón highlighted the critical distinction between restorative and therapeutic approaches in family law. Delgado Chu emphasized that restorative justice focuses on addressing the harm caused to victims and those affected, while Almirón noted that mediators are not therapists. They argued that confusing these two concepts can lead to ineffective resolutions in family disputes regarding child custody and asset administration.

In Argentina, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Province of Buenos Aires conducted a community session in América under the “La Justicia va a la Escuela” program. Judicial authorities from the Trenque Lauquen Judicial Department led discussions on juvenile justice and digital citizenship. The event aimed to inform the public about the New Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Regime and the responsibilities associated with digital technology use.
