Legal industry undergoes rapid digital and AI transformation

The legal industry is undergoing a rapid digital transformation driven by the convergence of cloud infrastructure and generative artificial intelligence. According to Clio’s 2026 Legal Trends data, 71% of solo practitioners and approximately 87% of professionals at large firms have adopted AI in their workflows.

This shift follows years of compounding changes, including a massive increase in cloud adoption. American Bar Association surveys indicate that cloud usage among firms with more than 50 lawyers rose from 60% in 2021 to 94% by 2024. The pandemic further accelerated this transition by forcing firms to adopt remote work capabilities.

As the industry moves toward an AI-native landscape, the method of legal publishing is also evolving. There is an increasing emphasis on vectorization—converting text into numerical representations that capture semantic meaning. This process allows legal insights to be better integrated into Large Language Models (LLMs) through technologies like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), helping to reduce AI hallucinations and ensure professional insights are accurately cited and preserved.
