Legal planning and notary services in the Netherlands
In Elst, the Alzheimer's Café will host a session on October 13 focused on the importance of organizing legal affairs, such as wills and testaments, to provide clarity for individuals and their families. Erfrechtplanning director Kelly Boermans will discuss how to record wishes and make decisions to prevent uncertainty during vulnerable moments.
Regarding the digitalization of these processes, legal experts note that in the Netherlands, a will cannot be completed entirely online. While digital platforms can automate the preliminary paperwork to save time and costs, the law requires a physical signature in the presence of a sworn notary to ensure the document is legally valid. The Royal Notarial Professional Organization (KNB) emphasizes that the primary advantage of a traditional notary is the ability to provide personalized advice and ask critical questions that automated systems might miss.
