Legal proceedings address fatal carpool death and traffic accident

Two separate legal cases involving vehicular incidents have proceeded through the courts.

In Guangxi, the Hengzhou People's Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died of a sudden myocardial infarction while traveling in a carpool vehicle. The family sought over 180,000 yuan in compensation, alleging the driver engaged in illegal operation and failed to provide timely assistance. The court ruled that carpooling is a civil mutual aid activity rather than illegal commercial operation. The judge found the driver had fulfilled his legal obligations by attempting basic first aid and seeking help from bystanders, noting that the sudden nature of the medical emergency meant the driver could not have reasonably predicted the incident.

In Hong Kong, a 65-year-old woman appeared in court facing charges related to a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist in Cheung Sha Wan. The prosecution alleges that the victim, a 56-year-old Indian national, was struck by multiple vehicles before being run over by the defendant's car. The defendant denied charges of dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop after an accident, though she admitted to driving a vehicle that did not meet safety glass standards. The defendant stated she continued driving because she believed she had merely struck a hard object on the road.
