Legal proceedings advance in Colombian fraud and Guatemalan homicide cases

In Colombia, a criminal trial for former senator Juan Diego Gómez and his brother, David Orlando Gómez, has been scheduled for March 1, 2, and 3, 2027. The case involves alleged real estate fraud concerning the sale of two properties in Sabaneta. Prosecutors claim the brothers engaged in aggravated fraud by negotiating a transaction worth over 1.7 billion pesos for land that allegedly belonged to a third party rather than the defendants.

In Guatemala, legal proceedings regarding a fatal vehicle collision involving Jorge Rodas have been postponed. Rodas faces charges of homicide following the death of Nidia Bautista and serious injury to Kevin Jiménez. The defense has requested a suspension of the intermediate stage hearing to pursue a conciliation agreement with Jiménez to compensate for damages. A judge has rescheduled the hearing for November 18 to determine if an agreement is reached or if the trial will proceed.
