Legal proceedings advance in Nicaragua homicide and Honduras police death cases

In Nicaragua, a judge in Managua has admitted charges against four individuals accused of organized crime and aggravated murder in Nagarote. The case involves the August 28 killing of Franklin Yeri Lampin Sánchez and Yeymi Valeska Solórzano Corea. Two suspects, Ernesto Agustín Cruz Baltodano and Luis Alexander Contreras Lampin, are currently in custody facing charges of aggravated murder, robbery with violence, and illegal possession of firearms. Two other suspects, Yimin Maycol Bravo Santana and Luis Carlos Zapata, remain at large, with warrants issued for their arrest.

In Honduras, the trial against former police officer Harol Rolando Perdomo Sarmiento has resumed in La Esperanza. Perdomo Sarmiento is accused of homicide in the 2021 death of nursing student Keyla Patricia Martínez Rodríguez, who was found dead in a police cell after being detained during COVID-19 movement restrictions. The Supreme Court of Justice ordered a repetition of the oral and public trial after a previous conviction for negligent homicide was challenged. The proceedings are expected to conclude with a judicial inspection in September.
