Legal proceedings begin in two separate homicide cases in Europe

Legal proceedings have commenced in two separate homicide cases involving individuals of Indian descent in the Netherlands and Belgium.

In The Hague, 47-year-old Avadhootkumar S. is being tried in absentia for the 2019 murder of his wife. Authorities allege he strangled the 37-year-old woman and hid her body in a refrigerator before fleeing to India with his two children. Despite official extradition requests from the Netherlands, the suspect remains unlocated. The prosecution is proceeding with the trial to ensure the case reaches a conclusion. The substantive hearing is scheduled for May 13, 2027.

In Antwerp, the trial of Sukhdev Singh has begun regarding the death of Darshan Singh, who disappeared in 2018. After eight years of silence, Sukhdev Singh admitted during the first day of proceedings that he disposed of the victim's body in France. He claimed he found the victim dead after a night of drinking and panicked. Darshan Singh's body was discovered by a worker in a bag along a French highway in May 2025. While the disposal has been admitted, the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
